Dear Parents and Guardians,
The safety of our students and staff remains a top priority for Wilkes County Schools. Throughout the 2026–2027 school year, our schools will conduct a variety of safety drills to ensure students and staff know how to respond appropriately during an emergency. These drills include fire, severe weather, lockdown, intruder, cardiac response, and other emergency response procedures.
As part of our ongoing school safety efforts, each school will conduct an intruder drill prior to October 1. These drills give students and staff an opportunity to practice the procedures they would follow if an unauthorized or dangerous individual were on campus. School administrators and staff will conduct these drills in an age-appropriate manner while still providing meaningful practice of our safety procedures.
Wilkes County Schools also utilizes the CENTEGIX CrisisAlert system as an important part of our emergency response procedures. Staff members have access to wearable CrisisAlert badges that allow them to quickly request assistance when needed. The system also provides visual and audible notifications throughout the school during certain emergency situations and drills.
During safety drills, students should follow the directions of their teachers and school staff just as they would during an actual emergency. Practicing these procedures helps ensure our students and staff are familiar with expectations and can respond quickly and appropriately when needed.
