Title 1 Meeting

This is a reminder that our school buses are equipped with stop-arm cameras to help keep students safe as they get on and off the bus. Under Georgia’s Addy’s Law (HB 409), drivers who pass a stopped school bus while the stop arm is extended and red lights are flashing can be charged with a high and aggravated misdemeanor, face a minimum fine of $1,000, and up to 12 months in jail. This law was created to protect children across Georgia. We appreciate your help in keeping our students safe by staying alert and always stopping for school buses.

Checking out your student
Please remember that metal detectors are now in use each morning at WWCHS and WWMS as part of our continued efforts to keep students and staff safe. Help us make the process smooth by keeping these guidelines in mind:

All students will go through the metal detectors at either the main lobby or the cafeteria entrance.
All car riders must enter through the front lobby.
Clean out bookbags to remove unnecessary items.
Keep large metal items, like water bottles, easy to access or carry them separately to avoid delays.

This process has been in place since January, but we want to make sure all students, especially our new sixth graders, are familiar with the routines and expectations. We appreciate your continued support and cooperation.

Wilkes County School Nutrition is pleased to announce that we will continue participating in the USDA’s Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) through the National School Lunch Program for the 2025–2026 school year. What does this mean for your family? Every student enrolled in Wilkes County Schools from Pre-K through 12th grade will receive both breakfast and lunch at no cost each school day. CEP allows eligible schools to provide free, nutritious meals to all students regardless of household income. No action is required from parents or guardians—no applications to complete and no meal fees to pay. Just one more way we’re working to support student health and academic success. A la carte items (such as ice cream, chips, beverages, etc.) will be available for purchase at all schools. Students must have money in hand or funds in their account to buy these items. Payments for a la carte items, second meals, or any prior meal balances can be made in person with cash or check, or online through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. If you have any questions, please reach out to Elizabeth Bohler with the Wilkes County School Nutrition Department at bohlere@wilkes.k12.ga.us or 706-678-2718.
