This afternoon, Washington-Wilkes Middle and Comprehensive High Schools conducted their required intruder drills in coordination with the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies were on campus to help sweep the buildings, and we truly appreciate their partnership in making safety a priority.
The drills were completed smoothly, and our students and staff did an excellent job following procedures. Practicing these scenarios is an important part of ensuring we are prepared to respond in the event of an emergency, and we thank you for supporting our ongoing commitment to keeping your children safe.

This is a reminder that our school buses are equipped with stop-arm cameras to help keep students safe as they get on and off the bus. Under Georgia’s Addy’s Law (HB 409), drivers who pass a stopped school bus while the stop arm is extended and red lights are flashing can be charged with a high and aggravated misdemeanor, face a minimum fine of $1,000, and up to 12 months in jail. This law was created to protect children across Georgia. We appreciate your help in keeping our students safe by staying alert and always stopping for school buses.
