The Wilkes County School District Department of Special Education announces the intent to destroy specific special education and gifted records. Records will be destroyed that were collected, maintained, or used in providing free appropriate public education for disabled and/or exceptional students in the Wilkes County School District. This notice complies with the district’s comprehensive plan for special education as required by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
Special Education and Gifted Records for students who were born before August 1, 1999, and July 31, 2002, and those who have graduated with general education diplomas are no longer needed for educational purposes. These records might, however, be needed by the student or parent for Social Security or other reasons. If a student or parent would like copies of a student’s special education records, he or she should contact LaVonda Morton in the Special Education Office at 706-678-4431 or at mortonl@wilkes.k12.ga.us
The Wilkes County School District plans to destroy the above-referenced Special Education Records on June 20, 2025.
Pick-up dates for records will be June 3 – 4, 2025, at the location below:

Positive identification will be required before the records will be released to the individual.
