Us News

The 2022 U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools rankings are scheduled for online release at 12:01 a.m. EDT Tuesday, April 26, 2022.

Methodology, Data and Rankings Information On April 26, U.S. News will publish numerical ranks for nearly 18,000 public high schools, along with school-specific data on enrollment, graduation rates, student body demographics, free and reduced-price lunch, location, school type and state assessment results. Data on participation in and performance on challenging college-level coursework will also be available.

In addition to the main national rankings, there will be numerical rankings for public high schools in each state, in each metropolitan area having three or more high schools, and for each school district having three or more high schools. All charter and magnet schools will also be ranked in the Best Charter Schools and Best Magnet Schools rankings. The Best STEM Schools will continue to be ranked at the national level.

The Best High Schools rankings, available online only, are produced in conjunction with RTI International, a global research firm. U.S. News receives AP and IB data directly from the College Board and International Baccalaureate for use in the rankings.

To see changes and updates to this year’s rankings methodology, follow the Morse Code blog and see the methodology page on April 26.
